The Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (BNDD) was a bureau within the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) and a predecessor agency of the modern Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
It was created by § 3 of the Reorganization Plan No. 1 of 1968, submitted to Congress on 7 February 1968 and effective 8 April 1968. It was formed as a subsidiary of the United States Department of Justice, combining the Bureau of Narcotics (from the United States Department of the Treasury) and Bureau of Drug Abuse Control (from the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare’s Food and Drug Administration) into one agency.
In 1973, the BNDD was merged into the newly formed Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
In 1971, the BNDD was composed of 1,500 agents and had a budget of some $43 million (which was more than fourteen times the size of the budget of the former Bureau of Narcotics).
In January 1971 the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director, Richard Helms, approved a program of “covert recruitment and security clearance support to BNDD”, on request of the BNDD director, John Ingersoll. Ingersoll suspected widespread corruption among BNDD agents, and in December 1970 requested the CIA’s assistance in rooting it out.

Andrew G. McCabe (born May 5, 1968) is the acting Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He was selected to be the Deputy Director of the FBI by Director James Comey, and took that role on February 1, 2016. On May 9, 2017, McCabe became acting Director after Comey was dismissed by President Donald Trump. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated that McCabe is one of several candidates under consideration for Director.
McCabe graduated from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1986. McCabe graduated from Duke University in 1990 and obtained a J.D. degree from Washington University in St. Louis. During law school he interned in the criminal division of the United States Department of Justice. Because of a hiring freeze, McCabe spent three years in a private law practice before joining the FBI in 1996.
McCabe began his FBI career in the New York Field Office. While there, he was on the SWAT team. In 2003, he began work as a supervisory special agent at the Eurasian Organized Crime Task Force. Later, McCabe held management positions in the FBI Counterterrorism Division, the FBI National Security Branch and the FBI’s Washington Field Office. In 2009, he served as the first director of the High-Value Detainee Interrogation Group, a program to research interrogation techniques that was created after the Department of Defense Directive 2310 ban of waterboarding and other interrogation techniques. McCabe was part of the investigation of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. McCabe secured the arrest of Ahmed Abu Khattala for suspected involvement in the 2012 Benghazi attack.

American Type Founders (ATF) was a business trust created in 1892 by the merger of 23 type foundries, representing about 85% of all type manufactured in the United States.
ATF was the dominant American manufacturer of metal type from its creation in 1892 until at least the 1940s; it continued to be influential into the 1960s. Many fonts developed by American Type Founders in its period of dominance, including News Gothic, Century Schoolbook, Franklin Gothic, Hobo and Bank Gothic, are still in everyday use.
By the beginning of the final decade of the nineteenth century type founding was in a state of crisis. With the introduction of the Linotype, which could cast whole lines of body type in-house, demand for hand-set type was down. Throughout the late 1880s prices were maintained by an informal cartel of foundries, but as the number of foundries increased and with the invention of hot metal type, prices dropped dramatically. Additionally, type at this time was not standardized, either to body size or to base line, and printers resented the incompatibility of types from different foundries. Leaders in the industry, notably Joseph W. Phinney of the Dickinson Type Foundry in Boston, set up a committee to address these problems, eventually recommending consolidation.
